According to the latest weather information, Newport News is not expected to be seriously impacted by the tropical storm. Predictions indicate that Newport News will experience less than an inch of rain, and winds up to 35 miles per hour. The wind and rain are expected to hit this area sometime late tonight or early tomorrow morning. To ensure the comfort and safety of our families and staff, district officials have rescheduled Thursday night’s football game and Friday’s 9th grade orientation: Thursday's football game between Woodside and Hampton is rescheduled to 6 p.m. at Todd Stadium. Also, High School Orientation for 9th graders and new students will be delayed by one hour, and will start at 9 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 3. Students should report to their designated orientation bus stop ONE HOUR LATER than originally scheduled.

NNPS has made gains in student achievement results since 2006, and for the second year in a row, all schools earned full accreditation by the Virginia Department of Education.
Based on an analysis of the 2009-2010 Standards of Learning (SOL) test results, all Newport News Public Schools will earn full SOL accreditation for the second year in a row.
