The Newport News Council of PTAs has 5 specific goals:
To promote the welfare of children and youth in home, school, place of worship and community
To raise the standards of home life
To secure adequate laws for the care and protection of children and youth
To bring into closer relationship the home and school, so that parents and teachers may cooperate intelligently in the education of children and youth
To develop between educators and the general public such united efforts as will secure for all children and you the highest advantages in physical, mental, social, and spiritual education.

Volunteer Guidelines
There are very few “absolutes” in the Newport News VIPS program. Our program works because it is flexible; however, even the most flexible program needs a general framework. It is especially important that all programs follow the requirements set forth in items one and two listed below. Questions about program policy should be directed to the individual school principal or the volunteer director.
Each PTA unit in Newport News is required to provide a Council Representative to attend the general membership meetings of the Newport News Council of PTAs. In addition, this individual also has the following responsibilities.
